Gary and Ky - Engagement

I've been working a lot in the cold thanks to several engagement sessions. I can't complain. The light has been phenomenal, especially for the session of Gary and Ky.

Engagement - Mike and Jai

What a shoot! 4 hours of photography wears a guy out! Mike and Jaime spent the weekend in Fort Scott for their photo shoot. We knew it was going to be a big shoot and it turned out to be an amazing time - except for the weather didn't cooperate like we had hoped. It would have been nice to have 80 degree temps but instead we got 30s!!!

They were troopers and hung with it and I'm glad they did because some of my favorite shots were taken outdoors.

I stole the above pose from Vanity Fair and loved the way it turned out. Mike's the perfect match for Jaime and she is the perfect match for him. I'm glad we know them so well and got the opportunity to photograph them before their big day - May 15, 2010!

Engagement - CK & Sydney - Blue Springs, Missouri

I used to catch frogs and build the most amazing hay forts with CK when we were just tiny little farts running around grandpa's farm. There were near-death experiences - including but not limited to: fingers hanging by threads after playing with knives, rolled ATVs, making too much noise late at night and countless others.

My life has been blessed - I can call my cousins my best friends. It's great to know that you can count on them when needed. CK was my best man when I married Megan. He was the first person I wanted to call when I proposed. Even though we live a few hours apart and don't see each other often, I know that if needed he would be there.

So I really didn't give he and his fiance much of a choice when they began planning their wedding - I was going to be their photographer, regardless of how they felt.

On Saturday I met them at their home in Blue Springs, Mo., for an engagement shoot. We did most of the images in Lees Summit but my favorite photo was taken in their home. I used paint to write words on their arms as they embraced...and well...here is the result and the cleanup afterwards.

Blinn defeats FSCC For NJCAA National Title

Blinn's Cameron Newton superman's into the endzone for the game's first touchdown. I don't care how good this kid may have been (He backed up Tim Tebow at Florida), he's a punk. All day long he walked around like he was a Greek god.

Newton races past an FSCC defender.

FSCC's Jasmin Hopkins was named the offensive MVP of the game after rushing for more than 3,000 (He actually rushed for an astonishing 210) yards against Blinn. He was a total animal but even that couldn't keep Blinn from winning.

The Eden Family - Fort Scott

Where to begin?

I've known Jon since I left the womb - he's my cousin and been one of my best friends for as long as I can remember. Not many of my greatest memories happened without him. We've camped together, beat each senseless with foam toys in the pool, golfed together and I doubt it ... but it's always possible we've even streaked together. Doubtful though. We also used to have a jackalope when we lived together in college. Life has been a treat for sure....

I've photographed Jon and his wife, Meredith, several times over the past 3 years (They were married one week after Megan and I). This was the first family photo they have had with their 3 month old Kenlee, named after me of course! ;)

Cagle Family - Olathe

It's been awhile since I photographed the Cagle family. I first photographed Madalyn as a toddler and she was quite the little model.

A few years later I photographed Braedon and Nicole in their wedding near the Country Club Plaza in KC.

Fast forward to present times and I had the opportunity to photograph the newest addition, Vannah, as well as the entire family for the Christmas card. We had a great time shooting outdoors and then around the Christmas tree in their living room.

A beautiful family! I look forward to more shoots in the years to come.

Vannah - 1.5 years old and a little cutie!

Madalyn - ALMOST 7!!! She was one of two flower girls in my wedding 3.5 years ago.

Madalyn peeks through the Christmas tree as she hangs her favorite ornaments. My favorite image from the shoot.

Florida Vacation Redux

It's been super hush-hush the past few months because of a surprise Megan and I were hoping to pull off but finally it's all over and I can talk about it.

We returned home from Florida - Boca Raton to be exact - Monday night after a vacation to stay with several family members. Amy's 40th birthday is in December and we wanted to surprise her so we arranged to fly in for a few days and stay with her and the family. She was shocked!

Megan flew in on Wednesday and I flew in on Friday - twice the surprise!

Most of our time was spent shopping and eating - Felt Family Professions.

Scott took me to a beach and pier at sunrise on Sunday morning so I could photograph and see my first ever ocean sunrise. I wasn't let down one bit. Here are a few of my favorites. The first is titled "Our Love Won't Be Washed Away".

Fort Scott Community College #1 in the nation

I Had the pleasure of photographing several of the core members of the Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds football team on Wednesday evening. This shoot took place for a few reasons - 1. They are the top ranked team in the nation; 2. The photos would look great in the local paper; and 3. For an agency I shoot for. I thought there would be a lot of interest locally and possibly nationally.

QB Dominique Davis and RB Jasmin Hopkins

LB Lavonte David

The prospective all-americans.

Kansas loses 5th straight

After starting the season 5-0, the Kansas Jayhawks have lost their last 5 games with the most recent being to Nebraska at home this past Saturday. It was disappointing to say the least...

Jason Aldean Comes to Fort Scott

WOW!

Just finished editing the photos from the Rockin and Ropin for Pennies for the Park concert featuring Jason Aldean. All I can say is...WOW!

What a great event for Fort Scott. Aldean and his crew put on a top-notch show. Unbelievable!

First things first. Early this afternoon I stopped by the fairgrounds to make sure my pass was going to get me where it was supposed to. I was told that my pass was basically useless....

So after some crafty work I secured a VIP pass but was told I had to stay away from backstage - BOOO! I agreed.

As soon as the show was about to start I met up with the guy in charge of making everything happen concertwise - and was told I could do whatever I wanted, including shoot from the stage!!! And that basically made my day. And I can't forget to mention that I never would have met that guy had it not been for Diana Mitchell, who has got me a few good places I wouldn't have been able to talk my way into. Last year she secured me a spot in a helicopter so I could shoot an aerial shot of the 3 million pennies spread out in a parking lot.

Fort Scott is No. 1!!!! This was my favorite taken from onstage. Eventhough they were all looking at Jason, I'm pretty sure they were screaming for me! Haha

I was lucky to get this shot. Since I had already been next to the stage for most of the show I told myself to find a different angle. BUT...I went back and after one song he came over to shake hands, which sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Early guestimates make the crowd to be around 7,000 people.

Brittany and Steven - Engagement

Where to begin? These two are the perfect couple...one of my favorite quotes perfectly describes the way they feel for each other.

"If I could reach up and hold a star for every time you've made me smile, the entire evening sky would be in the palm of my hand."

I've known Brittany since she was a freshman at Pitt State...making me somewhat older...

We met up in my hometown so that their engagement pix wouldn't look like the rest - Brittany is our designer at Captured Images so she sees EVERY SINGLE IMAGE that Gary and I create. We're talking hundreds...of THOUSANDS over the past 5 years. When she asked me to shoot her session I really wanted to do something different than she had seen before.

Mission accomplished. They both love them.

Working with Brit has provided a little insight into her and Steven's relationship - she loves him more than anything. He is her sun and her moon.

Here's to a great engagement and a happy wedding day next May! Or is it April? :)

Gorgeous Models

It's hard to take a bad photograph of gorgeous kids. I had a shoot Monday in Uniontown with three of my favorite youngsters, Blair, Cole and Lauren. Their mom, Tina, served as our stylist. We spent about 1.5 hours walking around town using the awesome evening light and bricks as patterns. I'd have to say it was one of my most favorite shoots EVER.

Here we used a rusty piece of scaffolding for a prop and I love how they were all so contemplative. I love it!

This was the LAST shot of the day. I was walking away when I had the thought to put Lauren on the running board of an out of service pickup truck from the middle ages. This is my fave shot.

FSCC Dominates Highland

FSCC defeated the Highland Scotties 1000-17 on Saturday. The Greyhounds are ranked #3 in the country and continue to play at the highest level they have played in decades.

Former Boston College qb Dominique Davis stands about 9 feet tall and can sling the ball 300 yards. He's that good.

It takes an entire offensive line to stop Byron Jerideau.

Does he catch it?

Dude had 4 interceptions! Yes...FOUR!

Believe it or not this guy made the catch...

Congratulations to Ryan and Elizabeth

A guy I've known for years tied the knot with the love of his life, Elizabeth, Saturday in Lexington, Mo. I was lucky enough to be their photographer.

IT WAS THE COLDEST WEATHER I'VE EVER PHOTOGRAPHED A WEDDING IN! Though there was the hurdle to get by due to the weather I think we made some pretty fun and exciting images. Here is one that was taken inside the church rectory while we warmed our hands between outdoor shoots.

Not too long ago - maybe a few months at most - most of us saw a wedding video on Youtube. If you saw it, you know what I'm talking about. If not..oh well. Since then I had hoped that one of my wedding parties would do that and fortunately they saved the dance until the reception. Here is a quick shot of that.
That was only the beginning of the dancing as the wedding party proved that the dance floor was no match for them.
I can't forget that even though it was cold outside, the guys still found a way to have fun with expensive pieces of artillery (since the military academy was only a block away).

Lastly, I got a chance to hang with my cousin CK and his new fiancee Syd. CK was my best man when I got married and my hay fort buddy when we were kids. Their wedding will be sometime next fall and I can't wait for it!
