St. Mary's Colgan Dance Team 09-10

I have to thank a client and friend from Pittsburg who set me up with this shoot. Mary got me hooked up with the Colgan cheer squad earlier in the month. Got an email from the dance coach last week about possibly shooting the dance team since the cheer team's photos turned out so well. This just proves my theory that not only do you have to know the right people, you have to do a good job every shoot! I strive to exceed expectations in hopes of landing new jobs. . . looks like it paid off this time.

For the shoot, we met at Gorilla Village on the Pittsburg State University campus and used Timmons Chapel and the bridge at Campus Lake for the locations. All went smoothly and we had great smiles! On top of that, I got to meet a great bunch of girls and take some fun photos. Enjoy....

2009 Cal Ripken State Tourney - Fort Scott, KS

A young fan sprays his face with water to keep cool. My favorite image from the entire weekend!

Thursday evening - Monday afternoon the Cal Ripken 12 year old State Tournament was held in Fort Scott. I shot just about every inning of action of every game. It was a long and warm weekend of fun! Sales were low but we had a blast. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the 14 games!

Great light every evening made for some interesting images at home plate!

KC Royals v LA Angels

Tuesday night's Kansas City Royals game against the LA Angels was quite boring. So boring in fact, I left after 6 innings. Part of the reason I left early was because I had arrived for about 45 minutes worth of action in the first game of the doubleheader so I had shot about a full game worth of images anyway.

For some reason I am intrigued by Royals pitcher Zack Grienke. Not only is he the team's best player, but he spits sunflower seeds like you can't believe. You can see the image above.

This image is of Angels pitcher Sean O'Sullivan warming up in the bullpen prior to the second game. The light was incredible so I took advantage of it!

Shortstops are my favorite. They generally have a bit of a cockiness to them (much like wide receivers in the NFL) but they also provide great images during double plays. This is of Angels SS Erick Aybar turning a double play on the Royals.

And, my favorite image from the night as the Angels catcher loses the ball while trying to tag out Royals catcher John Buck at home plate.

Selling Fast

Summer Dreams is on its way to becoming my most popular print EVER! It's now tied with two others, but will take over the Number ONE spot as soon as the next print is sold. I released this print a few weeks ago and it skyrocketed immediately. It has continued to sell very consistently.

Here's a big thanks to everyone who now owns a print and to those who purchase one in the future!

5x7 - $20; 8x10 - $35; 20x30 - $180

I'm an idiot, but you already knew that..

Immediately after hopping onto the Sizzler at Bourbon County's fair last night...I pretty much realized that regret was in order. As I hopped on I grabbed my Nikon so I could take some fun pix while riding with Mike. Most everyone else was worried that my camera might die...I was pretty comfortable with keeping control of it. Luckily, everything ended up okay. Until the ride stopped...which was about the time my head started spinning and my fettucini dinner began talking to me! Now, about 18 hours later, my head is still spinning and asking for a time machine. Oh well....good photos were taken so that's the important thing!
Idiot Take #2
During my recent trash the dress photo shoot, we had to leave early because of Mr. Snake seen below. Now...for those of you who know me, I'm scared to death of snakes. Imagine little girls screaming and running, well that's me! This time, though, I felt a little more awesome and decided to get a good shot of this little slimy dude. Thankfully, he was hanging out in the water and I was on dry land so no snake bites were witnessed. Why is it that we photographers sometimes feel a bit more AWESOME/IMMORTAL with camera in hand?

Trash the Dress - Haughtzenwau Style

Well, my adopted sisters from Florida - part of the Haughtzenwau family - are here all week. They wanted to do their own Trash the Dress photo shoot. Here are three of my favorites!

Peg bought her dress (the blue one) at a local thrift store because she thought it looked like the one Bella wore in Twilight. Needless to say...she's pretty much a Twilight fanatic and turned down a chance to meet Rob Pattinson this week so she could hang with us. We love them all. Bunny (the oldest) is in the process of being persuaded to attend Pitt State for a semester and stay with Megan and I. Cross your fingers.....

Artwork For The New House!

Well, we're all moved in to our new home! LOVE IT! As you can see by the above photo, we have the lighting set up to resemble an art gallery. This is the one thing I was adamant about in the decorating process. There are still a few holes to fill so I just printed up some new images and we're now waiting on the frames....the top three photos will complete our living room .... up next, finding images for the bedrooms!

St Marys Colgan Cheerleaders

Believe it or not, I LOVE last minute photo shoots. I thrive when the pressure is on...so when I got a call Monday to photograph the St. Marys - Colgan high school cheer squad, I was eager to accept. Luckily, the light was beautiful even though a storm had rolled through the area less than an hour earlier.

In all honesty I was pretty freaked out all day because I wanted the shoot to go great! Luckily, the sponsor and all the moms (see below) were super nice and the girls were great models. I look forward to next year if given the opportunity!

Hole 15 - Fort Scott's Signature Hole

The Chamber of Commerce recently asked me to shoot some stuff of Hole 15 at Fort Scott's golf course. Last night there was pretty decent light so I went out and shot this image. Later this month a print of it will be auctioned off for a fundraiser at the chamber.

Hanging Lake - Colorado's Most Beautiful Hike

I've had tons of questions about some of the photos I took while at the Hanging Lake near Glenwood Springs, Colorado in June. Since I've got a little time to spare, I thought I'd type up a little more and go into detail about one of Colorado's most beautiful, hidden gems.

Shortly before I headed to Colorado, I did some research on waterfalls near where I would be staying for the week. Recently I've had a fascination with photographing moving water so I wanted capitalize on that while the rivers and streams were running at near full capacity. Luckily an Internet search gave me Hanging Lake. All the accounts I read said the hike would be relatively easy.

While it wasn't extremely difficult, it was pretty much a butt kicker. The trail (consisting of primarily boulders and a worn-down dirt path) climbed 1,000 feet in elevation from top to bottom of the 1.2 mile hike. Tack on 30-40 pounds of camera gear and it was 1 hour of COMPLETE SUCK hiking the trail.

Luckily, I knew what awaited me at the top of I would have probably quit 10 minutes into the hike. I wasn't disappointed when I got there.

The photos directly above and below were actually taken from atop the falls.

A few friends I met on the hike pose atop one of the two waterfalls.
A second set of waterfalls, known as Spouting Rock, is located a few hundred yards above and behind Hanging Lake. This is taken from behind the water - a small cavern provides a spot to walk around.

More firepower!

Traveled to my wife's hometown of Bronson for a fireworks display July 4. Here are a few of the explosions!

Home Sweet Home - Fireworks a Day Early!

There's not much more that I prefer to do than go home - Uniontown, Kansas - on the day before Independence Day. The people are the best and the fireworks are top notch!

Trash the Dress III - Katie and Clayton

Katie contacted me recently about doing a Trash the Dress photo shoot after she had seen my first two sessions. I had a great surprise when she brought her boyfriend Clayton, who just happens to be my cousin. They were a blast and it was super cool getting to trash a suit rather than just a dress!

3...2...1.....JUMP!
Clayton about 2 inches from my 14mm lens! Dude...back.....the.....heck....off!
Rocking out the rope swing!
It's hard to give direction over the loud roar of a waterfall! They did awesome though!
Laying on a rock slab table at Gunn Park. Loved the light here...
